The Liminality series is our embodiment for the unprecedented power of hope. It reminds us that paradigms can be shifted so a new, prosperous future can arise from the chaos. What all started with our classic Ornament , evolved by the epic forces that pierced through it. First the PreLiminality arises. Further transition leads to the flame-treated Liminality. Both pieces have selectively positioned, hand-set natural diamonds reflecting the resilience and emphasising that under pressure new beauty is formed.
The PreLiminality is the initial emergence of the Liminality; the start of transitioning between one stage in our life and the next. Our creative journey started with the Ornament 1 featuring a classic dial with our Breguet inspired numerals. An absolute token of a style and conservative sophistication that is synonymous with a formal event. However, its stately and formal appearance suffered severe damage! Epic forces pierced through the dial, causing it to crack and opening up a peek into the movement. Still, the fully polished case combined with remains of the broken numerals on the black rhodium dial are referring to classicism and traditional watchmaking.
The Liminality is the next step in the transition, where the chaos has further removed the timepiece from its origin. Coarse, almost stone-like textures have taken over the case. The open-worked dial has lost the broken numerals, while it gained subtle hues of colour from the flame-treatment it went through. New paradigms are being established and the telling of time continues!
The dials are cut open and grinded by hand like a modernist sculpture resulting in a brutalist appeal. PreLiminality features a black rhodium plated finish, while the Liminality’s dial is flame-treated to build up a beautiful, lively and always unique colourful patina. Both dials are set with 18 brilliant cut diamonds, emphasising the impact beaming from the mechanical beating heart of the timepieces.
The Liminality’s movement has been exposed to the elements of chaos as well, leading to the HW-LIM movement. It includes handmade rough textures bursting outwards from the balance wheel. Afterwards it is flame-treated to create different colour tones. The screws are heat-blued, the crown wheel core is polished, the gears have circular graining and the ratchet wheel is finished with a snailing pattern.
