The story

Holthinrichs Watches

Made in Delft

By combining design, craftsmanship and technology Holthinrichs Watches follows a long established and impressive tradition typical for the town of Delft.

Since the Dutch war for independence in the sixteenth century the town has gradually developed from a stronghold of our royal family into an epicentre of artisanal production and technological excellence.

It was birthplace of the world famous painter Johannes Vermeer (1632 – 1675) and his close acquaintance and important pioneer in the development of the microscope, Antoni van Leeuwenhoek (1632 – 1723). From the mid-sixteenth century the industry of refined hand-painted Delft Blue pottery started to flourish, making craftsmanship synonymous with the town. By the year 1842 the foundations were laid for the Delft University of Technology, which is now widely praised for its focus on engineering, product design and architecture. Given this historical context it shall not surprise Holthinrichs Watches is proud of its origins and thereby choosing the words ‘Made in Delft’ to be placed on the dial of the watch.
