The birth of the first Dutch watch manufacture

Holthinrichs Haute Horlogerie

“I want people to experience the emotional sensations that architecture can evoke through its spatial, structural and artisanal complexity: architecture on the wrist. That is why our watches are named after the architectural ornament.”

Michiel Holthinrichs, founder of Holthinrichs Watches.

Architecture on the wrist

It is our deepest belief that this can only be achieved when we let our design philosophy flow through to even the smallest details of the design: when all components work together in what becomes a true integrated design.

We have the high ambition to independently control the full design and manufacturing process since the launch of Holthinrichs Watches, resulting in our latest creation.

With pride, we are about to announce the ORNAMENT NOUVEAU. A project that we have been developing since 2017, containing our first in-house developed movement in a spectacular, unprecedented sculptural design language.

ORNAMENT NOUVEAU

Eclipse Dial

A dial made of UV-sensitive photochromic material, a novelty in the industry. The dial turns smoked black in UV lighting, protecting the oils in the skeleton movement from degradation in UV light, as well as providing a playful aspect to the watch. When inside, one can see the beautiful sculptural movement, while outside in daylight the watch turns into a very classical timepiece, subduing the inner mechanics and emphasizing the sculptural case.

3D printed case

The case stands out by its unique and innovative design, instantly recognizable by its exceptional double curved surfaces that dynamically float from the lugs all around the caseband. Its organically shaped lugs are inspired by both Art Nouveau and nature, and connected to the case’s main body in a spectacular way. Organic, openworked structures that we could only achieve by using the latest innovations in high-end 3D metal printing.

HW-M02 Our first manufacture movement

HW-M02 Our first manufacture movement

ORNAMENT NOUVEAU features our first in-house developed movement in a spectacular, unprecedented sculptural design that fully reflects the overall design language of the watch.

The movement, though simple in its functioning - telling only the hours and minutes -, is complex in its execution. While only 4mm thick, it offers maximal three-dimensionality through complex machining and extensive manual finishing.

The organically shaped stainless steel bridges are cantilevered above the center of the movement. Each of them executed as miniature sculptures with multiple interacting three-dimensional surfaces and manually finished with heavy contrasting textures and anglage for maximal visual depth.

Hand-finished hands

Stainless steel sword shape hands, with large concave anglage on the blades and linear brushing on the top of the hands.

HW-M02 Caliber

A Dutch-made, in-house developed movement: a novelty for both us and the Netherlands!

ORNAMENT NOUVEAU features our first in-house developed movement in a spectacular, unprecedented sculptural design that fully reflects the overall design language of the watch. A dream come true, and the only way to realize our vision of fully integrated designs.

Kaliber HW-M02

The brushed and polished crown wheel is held by the bridge, decorated with anglage and the caliber name, proudly written in Dutch.

'Double Barrel'

The mainplate of the movement consists of a double concave shape, creating a strong optical three-dimensional effect. The clean, frosted surface displays the double ratchets and polished chatons. The specifications of our Dutch manufacture movement are engraved in the Dutch language.

Very first edition going for auction

To commemorate the 11th anniversary of The Lavish Attic we proudly present the very first iteration of the ORNAMENT NOUVEAU, which will go for auction at Phillips Hong Kong. Especially for this occasion, we have inscribed the black rhodium mainplate of our HW-M02 movement. Additionally, the piece unique is presented in a stainless steel 3D printed sculpture, enclosed in an inscribed cover.

We invite you to check out the auction at Phillips Hong Kong, on November 23rd.

Piece unique

Last year, renowned luxury watch retailer The Lavish Attic asked us to work on our most ambitious project yet: A unique first edition of ORNAMENT NOUVEAU - a project we’ve been dedicated to since 2017. This exceptional timepiece integrates innovative UV sensitive technology, 3D metal printing, the very first Dutch Manufacture movement HW-M02, and extensive haute horlogerie finishing within a groundbreaking, sculptural design language.

Uniquely for this version, we laser-engraved the mainplate, commemorating our collaboration with renowned Hong Kong retailer The Lavish Attic. Moreover, the spectacular sculpture including inscribed base and glass cover is part of this piece unique.

Timeline

We are currently in the early stages of planning production. Since these models are highly complex to manufacture and finish, we anticipate being able to produce up to 20 timepieces per year at full capacity. Considering the production setup, we estimate the lead time for the first series to be approximately 24 months. It’s important to mention that we will produce no more than 100 timepieces of this model in total. Pricing is starting at €59.5k (ex. VAT) in titanium.
